Poundbury, Dorchester - Early Phases
Poundbury is an urban extension to the old market town of Dorchester. The Prince of Wales, with the Duchy of Cornwall, set out to build a high density development that would help to create a lively, thriving neighbourhood with a distinctive sense of place.
This relaxed informality of stone cottages at one turn is balanced by the formality of a sweeping, gracious crescent at another. Broad streets with fine terraces, the use of traditional railings, lead detailing and carefully placed features, all combine to be the very essence of Poundbury.
