Redlands Lane, Broadwindsor
On the edge of this West Dorset Village, the development of this green field site was designed to integrate with the existing village and provide a through route linking two roads out of the village. Sharp bends were introduced to avoid the road becoming a short cut for the locals.
Redlands Lane followed the vernacular theme of the village. 13 homes were built for rent and shared ownership through a Housing Association, together with 32 private homes all designed as traditional cottages and houses. We used a mixture of local stone, render and brick with thatch, slate and tile roofs.
This scheme won the Raglan Housing Association's Geoff Hopkins Design Award.
