Builders of the future see progress at Poundbury
Students heading for careers in the construction industry visited builders C G Fry & Son at Poundbury to see how the world-famous development is shaping up.
Frys’ Poundbury project manager Steve Walker showed them work in progress on the South West Quadrant, where homes, shops and other commercial buildings are currently under construction.
Now around half complete, Poundbury is scheduled to keep on building until 2025. C G Fry & Son, based at Litton Cheney, have now built more than 500 of Poundbury’s houses, as well as many commercial properties.
The students were from Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, Sir John Colfox School at Bridport and Beaminster School. They have all gained a Foundation Certificate in the Building Craft Occupations course which is based at Colfox for one day a week over two years.
The Poundbury visit was organised by Sylva Starke from the Dorset Construction Curriculum Centre.
Said Steve Walker: “It’s always good to welcome students who are genuinely interested in the construction industry.
