With National Mentoring Day on the 27th October celebrating the significant benefits of mentoring across the UK, the Dorset-based builder is proud to recognise its investment in its Apprenticeship scheme, with seven new apprentices joining the company in a variety of trades this year.
Carpentry, bricklaying, joinery, site management and architecture are the trades that have seen an intake of apprentices this year, in addition to two carpentry apprentices who joined last year.
Philip Fry, Managing Director of CG Fry & Son commented, “We are aware of the skills shortages in the construction trade in general and we are currently working with leading industry training providers to invest in the next generation.
“With the government setting a target of recruiting three million apprentices by 2020, there has been a complete overhaul of not just the way apprenticeships are funded, but also the content of the apprenticeships themselves.
“We fully back the reforms which aim to promote apprenticeships as an effective way for young people and adults to enter the workforce equipped with the necessary skills and relevant work experience.”
All of the apprentices are gaining hands on experience and are working across the CG Fry & Son contracting and development teams in the South West, where they get the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects in Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire Devon and Cornwall.
They are all studying at Weymouth, Bridgwater & Taunton and Cornwall Colleges for NVQ Diplomas.
