Three CG Fry & Son site managers crowned supreme winners at housebuilding awards

Three site managers from CG Fry & Son have won coveted awards at the highly competitive next stage of the NHBC (National House Building Council) Pride in the Job South West Awards 2025, which recognise the best site managers in the UK.

Having already achieved a prestigious Quality Award in the previous round, Steve Walker, Grant Gibson and Brendan Leech each advanced to win further accolades – securing a remarkable hat trick!

Steve Walker was crowned the overall Regional Winner in the medium builder category for building homes of exceptional quality at Poundbury. This marks an impressive 12th time he has received this top regional honour. Grant Gibson won a Seal of Excellence Award for Jurston Fields in Wellington and Brendan Leech was also awarded a Seal of Excellence for Nansledan in Newquay.

Widely considered the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry, Pride in the Job celebrates site managers’ dedication to raising standards in housebuilding, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence. The awards are run by the NHBC, the UK’s largest provider of new home warranties and insurance.

Judging is rigorous and the site managers are assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.

Philip Fry, managing director of CG Fry & Son, said: “We are absolutely delighted for Steve, Grant and Brendan; they are outstanding site managers who fully deserve this recognition. Their attention to detail is excellent and it is a testament to their leadership skills that their teams care equally as much as they do and work so well together.

“To be recognised with a Quality Award is impressive, but to be singled out again with a further award is amazing. We are incredibly proud of them all. We now look forward to the gala ceremony in London in January, when Steve Walker will go forward to compete for the ultimate prize in UK housebuilding in the Pride in the Job Supreme Awards.”

Commenting on the Awards, Cassandra Codling, senior regional director at NHBC said: “Thousands of outstanding site managers have made their mark on the industry in the 45 years Pride in the Job has been running. This continued focus on excellence is vital to support the Government’s 1.5 million new homes target and to ensure that all housing is built to the quality owners and occupiers should expect.

“Congratulations to Steve Walker, Brendan Leech and Grant Gibson of CG Fry & Son on their win. They demonstrated the dedication, passion and leadership skills necessary to deliver new homes to exacting construction quality standards.”
