Building careers for the future: CG Fry & Son celebrates National Apprenticeship Week

To mark National Apprenticeship Week (9th – 15th February 2026), apprentices at CG Fry & Son are sharing their stories to highlight how the scheme provides a vital gateway into the construction industry.

The award-winning company is currently supporting a new wave of talent across diverse disciplines, including carpentry, joinery, painting and decorating, and architecture. These individuals are gaining essential hands-on experience by working across CG Fry & Son’s contracting and development teams on a wide variety of projects throughout Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset, and Cornwall.

Beyond internal training, CG Fry & Son is deeply committed to fostering educational links within the community. By collaborating with local colleges and schools, the company actively supports young people in discovering clear career pathways, ensuring the next generation is equipped with the professional guidance and technical skills needed to thrive in the built environment.

Philip Fry, managing director of CG Fry & Son, commented: “National Apprenticeship Week provides a fantastic opportunity to highlight the diverse routes into our industry. There are so many different roles within construction – from electricians to land buyers, and surveyors to engineers.

"Apprenticeships work exceptionally well for individuals, but they are equally vital for employers. We gain team members with a well-rounded knowledge of the business who are fully trained and committed. As the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) has outlined, our industry is currently facing a significant skills shortage, so investing in the right people is more important than ever. By bringing in fresh talent, we can help them shape their roles based on their unique skills and interests while future-proofing the sector.

“It’s inspiring to see our apprentices flourish; their ambition and passion for their trades is a direct answer to that industry-wide demand for new skills. Whether they choose to master a specific craft or progress into management, apprenticeships certainly open doors to lifelong success.”
