Regional builder CG Fry & Son is delighted to have been appointed by West Dorset District Council to begin work on the extended Harbourmasters office at the Cobb in Lyme Regis.
The redevelopment of this landmark building will include the partial demolition of the existing building and the construction of a rear single storey flat roof extension. In addition, there will be a new first floor partially above the new ground floor and over the retained ground floor structure.
With good weather on our side, completion is anticipated in Spring 2019 in time for harbour staff to move back in for the 2019 summer season.
Mike Pinney, Contracting Director of CG Fry & Son commented, “We undertake projects across the South West, but we are particularly looking forward to starting work on the Harbourmasters Office. Lyme Regis is a thriving harbour and the new building will stand to serve the maritime community for many years to come.”
The building will complement the existing surroundings and will be finished to a high quality, to ensure it is in keeping with its surroundings. The redevelopment will futureproof the facility for the anticipated increase in demand for boats in the harbour.
Cllr John Russell, portfolio holder for Environmental Protection and Assets said: “We are delighted that work is due to start soon at the harbourmasters office that overlooks the iconic Cobb. This is an important conservation area, and we are confident that the design will complement the historic nature of its surroundings. We are excited about the delightful addition of a 180 degree observation balcony. We have a waiting list of over 100 boats wanting to moor at our wonderful harbour, and this updated harbourmasters office will give them a great experience.”
