As part of CG Fry & Son commitment to building a greener future, their new initiative sees the developer engaging within the communities they work by planting native trees.

The first trees have been planted with the assistance of Thorner’s Church of England Primary School’s gardening club who helped select the trees and choosing their positioning in the school grounds.

Headteacher Michael Sitch of Thorner’s Church of England Primary School is thrilled with the new trees, saying:

“Thorner's was delighted to welcome CG Fry & Son to our wildlife, forest-school area and the children were excited to help plant the new trees Fry's kindly donated. The children enjoyed digging the holes for the new trees and getting nice and muddy in the process!”

“It’s nice to think it will still be growing here in years to come,” said Jack (Year 6) “especially as so many older trees have blown down recently.”

The tree planting ceremony was particularly sentimental for Philip Fry, Managing Director, from CG Fry & Son, who cited the connection between the company’s legacy and the village of Litton Cheney. Philip says:

“CG Fry & Son was started in the quiet Dorset village of Litton Cheney not long after the First World War. More than 95 years on, the company still has its head office in the village. Therefore, we are proud to donate the trees to Thorner’s Church of England Primary School as we believe in the power of giving back to the community, environmental sustainability, and building a legacy for future generations.”

As well as enhancing local biodiversity, tree planting plays a part in reducing climate change through carbon sequestration, a commitment the developer has made as part of its carbon zero journey.
