C G Fry & Son has been awarded the Salisbury Civic Society New Buildings Awards Scheme 2017 for its Wyndham Place development in Tisbury.
The regional housebuilder was presented with the award at the Civic Society’s New Year Party on 11th January 2018 at Salisbury Guildhall.
The New Buildings Awards Scheme covers work carried out in the previous two years. The objective is to find new buildings with quality which sets them apart.
Wyndham Place is a mixed development of 90 homes, many built of Chilmark Stone and some with thatched roofs. It was designed as a village extension to the town.
It was the considerate design and masterplan that caught the eye of the judges, who noted that ‘unlike the average volume housebuilder’s estate, a lot of thought has gone into producing the appearance of organic growth typical of a large village.’
Speaking of the award, Philip Fry, Managing Director of CG Fry & Son said, “We are thrilled to have won this award from the Salisbury Civic Society. This is our second time we have won an award by the Society, having previously won one for our scheme at Clements Lane Mere where we are currently also building another scheme.
“We are incredibly proud of Wyndham Place, the development was designed to incorporate private homes, affordable social housing and mixed-use workshops. It also incorporates energy saving technology by the use of air source heat pumps to heat homes.
“Our vision for the development in this desirable village was to reflect the character of a traditional village and to ensure the buildings complemented the historic style of Tisbury. We worked closely with the Parish Council, local organisations and community groups to come up with a scheme that provided benefits for the local community such as open space and a new link to the school and sports centre as well as providing much needed new housing and employment.
“The Wyndham Place business centre has become an increasingly attractive location as one of the newest business parks in Wilshire.
“During the build, our site manager also won the NHBC Seal of Excellence for the development which demonstrates how our hard-working teams consistently strive to build the highest quality new homes in the region.”
The Project Architect, Ben Pentreath was also recognised by the Salisbury Civic Society.
Wyndham Place was felt by the judges to “clearly deserve an award” and could act “as a lesson to other, larger developers as to what could be achieved if the commitment was there.”
