Regional family businesses reunite in building project

Two renowned Dorset businesses reunited to work together again more than 55 years since their first project.

Regional Builder CG Fry & Son has completed building works on the new Ivy House Restaurant at the long-established Groves Nursey in Bridport.

Back in 1962, when Groves Nursery moved to its current location, CG Fry & Son, then led by Eddy Fry built one of the first buildings for the growing business.

Since then both companies have grown to become hugely successful and are now run by the next generation in their families.  Philip Fry, son of Eddy, is the Managing Director of CG Fry & Son, whilst Charlie Groves, Clive Groves’s son is the Managing Director of Groves Nursery.

Speaking of the project Philip Fry commented, “We were thrilled to have the opportunity for our contracting team to come back to Groves and continue the legacy that was started more than half a century ago.

The new impressive glass structure of Ivy House has been designed to complement the garden centre’s attractive layout and will provide a large family-friendly venue to meet the needs of the modern garden centre customer.

Over the years we have worked on several smaller alteration projects at Groves. We are very proud to be a part of this latest phase of works that provides a fantastic facility.”

Charlie Groves, Managing Director of Groves Nursery said “It’s been great working with CG Fry on this project.  Building a restaurant is a whole different ball game to running a garden centre and a very long way from anything I have done before.  The experience and expertise that Phil’s team brought to the project was invaluable and the professional attitude shows through in the fantastic finish achieved."
